Medallion Reflection
Being part of the Global Medallion program shaped my senior year at FIU. These two semesters pushed me to encounter new experiences. From pitching a social entrepreneur venture to a panel of judges to volunteer in New York, I had collected truly global memories.
A Year for the Books
HOW THE GLOBAL MEDALLION PROGRAM IMPACTED ME
GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE
THE ABILITY TO TAKE OTHERS’ POINTS OF VIEW AND ASSUMPTIONS INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN MAKING A DECISION.
Working in teams mean listening to others. Through the different leadership positions I held during the last year, taking the group's opinions in consideration before making a decision is one of my main takeaways. One technique that I implemented at StartUP FIU and SMA was to brainstorm projects in the conception level so every person in the team could share ideas and perspectives instead of me bringing projects that only needed to be executed.
GLOBAL AWARENESS
UNDERSTANDING NOT JUST WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD, BUT HOW IT IS ALL INTERCONNECTED. ISSUES DO NOT EXIST IN A VACUUM; THEY AFFECT ONE ANOTHER.
This is a very hot topic to discuss nowadays. Going through the elections and the refugee crisis while still living our normal lives showed how all world problems interconnect us and affect one another. For example, having classmates not knowing if they were going to be able to continue their education, affected their grades and group projects, where all of us where involved. Moreover, participating in discussions and competitions on how can we help the refugee crisis showed me that we need better solutions for ourselves too, as well as asking how to prevent these social wars from happening.
GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT
WILLINGNESS TO ENGAGE IN LOCAL, GLOBAL, INTERNATIONAL, AND INTERCULTURAL PROBLEM SOLVING.
The best example for Global Engagement was participating in Hult Competition. We worked for six intense weeks on researching the problems and needs of the refugees and coming up with solutions that were feasible to implement and could impact one million people by the end of year 5. Even though my team didn't win the local competition, working towards a problem that can solve problems for so many individuals in countries that we haven't even visited was impactful and broke many barriers for my thinking.

Plans after Graduation
I would like to join an organization that thrives on developing its community and human capital, but most importantly, to create an impact in society by providing solutions to key issues. I would like to put my organizational and leadership skills to use to help a team to accomplish the goal of making someone else's life a happier life.
